Dancing in the Streets

This month is jam packed with dance, everything from FREE dance block parties, to an original New Orleans ballet, to dance theatre for social change.

Get moving, these events start this week!

FREE BLOCK PARTY THIS SATURDAY: March 23rd 11am-3pm at Arise Academy

Dancing Grounds will host the 5th annual Dance for Social Change Festival in March 2019. The event is designed and led by their teenage dance company, DG Uprising. This year, students have chosen to examine the impact of gentrification and displacement on our city. The March dance festival will take place on Saint Claude with FREE and ticketed events.

Artivism Dance Theatre Presents: THE ELEPHANTS

Artivism Dance Theatre is a New Orleans based collective dedicated to bringing awareness of social issues to a wide range of audiences through dance theatre. ELEPHANTS is a dinner party in this age of pseudo-reality fueled by social media and fake news. The show asks what does it mean to be truly honest with ourselves and with others? Though we swim constantly in a stream of selfies and 120 character missives there remain vulnerable areas we do not discuss publicly.

"If we knew each other’s secrets, what comforts we should find.” — JOHN CHURTON COLLINS

March 29-31 At Art Klub General Admission: $17 Student/Artist/Teacher: $12

Marigny Opera Ballet  BOOK OF SAINTS

Book of Saints returns to the Marigny Opera House after its sensational debut in 2017. Teresa Fellion's two-act ballet is an illumination of the lives of three beloved saints: Teresa of Avila, Sebastian Martyr and Francis of Assisi. The original score for orchestra and chorus by New Orleans-based composer Tucker Fuller merited a Gambit award.
