Holidays are in full swing and so is the New Orleans theatre scene! We believe that quality time is a precious gift to give for the holiday, pick a show and share an evening with someone special, your significant other, best friend, sibling, or child. DECEMBER 2020 THEATRE AND DANCE CALENDAR

Mandatory Merriment: A Renewed Orleans Holiday Musical When circumstances beyond their control strand six strangers together at Benny’s Tavern in the French Quarter just two days before Christmas, they’re forced to find new ways to celebrate the season. Running Dec 4-29. $33-$50

Flying Lessons and Ripping Stitches Two Unique Theatrical Experiences in One Evening. Flying Lessons is an innovative new work that skillfully combines dance, object, and shadow theater. Ripping Stitches is an aerial play about intimacy, dependency, and struggling to hold on while the wind tries to blow your world apart. Running Dec 6 & 7 at 8pm. At Happyland Theater. $15-$20

Christmas Dances by the Marigny Opera Ballet. Diogo de Lima's Gambit Award-winning Aguas de Dezembro, accompanied by Larry Sieberth Ensemble. The program also includes a premiere by choreographer Kellis McSparrin Oldenburg: Sacred Harp, with music arranged by the Boston Camerata. Running Dec 6-8 at the Marigny Opera House. $30-$45

Period of Adjustment A comedy by Tennessee Williams about a pair of newlyweds on Christmas are stuck in a hellish honeymoon and show up unexpectedly at the home of a set of “old marrieds”! A Christmas Carol​ Le Petit's second-annual production of Charles Dickens’ heartwarming Victorian classic about the menacing moneylender Ebeneezer Scrooge learning lessons in love, generosity, and redemption when he is visited by a host of spirits on Christmas Eve. Running Dec 6- 23. $20-$65

John by Annie Baker The week after Thanksgiving. A Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A cheerful innkeeper. A young couple struggling to stay together. Thousands of inanimate objects, watching. Running Dec 7-30 at the Beaubourg Theatre. $20-$35


National Performance Network National Conference 350+ arts leaders from around the country gather for a creative exchange of ideas and experiences centered on advancing racial and cultural justice through the arts. December 10-13 at the CAC



DODTD by Ellevate Dance an immersive movement experience that explores the blurred lines between our dreams and our reality, and follows an emotional journey of lucid dreaming through dance. Running Dec 13-16 at the Fortress of Lushington. $20


Debauchery at Southern Rep New Orleans' only live, ongoing soap opera! In this episode, out of town relatives arrive for Chanel's Christmas party, but at Buff's request, everyone meets in an unusual place before party. Wear your ugly sweater! Dec 11. $15

Bloodborne: The Red Death, An Unmasking By The Mudlark Puppeteers. InFringe Encore Performance. A post-mortem of Poe's Masque of the Red Death, as witnessed from a servants’ perspective. Told through shadows, rod, marionette puppetry and dance. Set to a score of antique and original music. Running Dec 12-15. $10-$20

ONESIE -- a duet of solos performances of works in process by Hannah Pepper-Cunningham and Ron Ragin presented by Mondo Bizarro. Dec 13-15 at Catapult. $10-$20

The Nutcracker Ballet New Orleans Ballet Theatre presents its annual performances of The Nutcracker, a two-act ballet. Dec 14-22 at the Orpheum. $38-$68

Rap Unzel A hot take on the old tale of Rapunzel. “RAP” Unzel III, a young man with big hair and even bigger dreams of musical stardom. Running Dec 14-27. Presented by The Radical Buffoons at Southern Rep. $10-$20

The Nutcracker in New Orleans New Orleans School of Ballet's original production of The Nutcracker with a New Orleans twist! Set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, the localized production includes the Flight of the Pelicans, a Mardi Gras Strut, and more. Dec 20-22 at the CAC. $20-$25

25-Hour Play Festival Intramural Theater is BACK with their 3rd Annual 25-Hour Play Festival! All new plays created, staged, and performed in just 25-hours. Dec 29 at the Fortress of Lushington. $10
