November Calendar for NOLA Theatre and Dance

This November is packed with theatre and dance festivals, fundraisers, new plays, new companies, a new theatre space, and a musical!!

The November Lineup

RXBrew: An Evening of Beer and Cheer ​a fundraiser for Prescription Joy! Join all the friends and clowns, and clown's friends, and friend's clowns for a night at Urban South Brewery, $1 of every pint sold goes to Prescription Joy. Nov 6th 7pm-9pm. NO COVER

Spotlight New Orleans​- New Orleans very own late-night talk show returns to Cafe Istanbul with an InFringe sneak peek! Guests include: Jen Pagan (performing 'Eat Me'), Jon Broder the new AD of Infringe Fest, Homero López the executive director of ISLA Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy, and musical guest George Porter Jr. (Grammy-award winning bass player). Nov 6 8pm-10pm at Cafe Istanbul. $10

Infringe Theatre Festival New Orleans' only full-scale Independent Theatre & Performing Arts Festival. Over 30 shows at 11 venues in 4 days!! Shows are $10 (except some BYOV productions). Running Nov 7-10. $10

Poof! By Lynn Nottage presented by nolaNOW Theatre Company  After her souse spontaneously combusts, Lorene has a pile of ashes on the floor, and a life to reclaim. This dark comedy explores feminism, domestic abuse, and recovery through humor and hope. The inaugural production at the new Beaubourg theater. Running Nov 7-17. $15-$25

Cabaret presented by See 'Em On Stage Productions The cult classic musical set in a tawdry Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close. Join the garish Master of Ceremonies and forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. Running Nov 8-24 at the New Orleans Art Center on St Claude. $18-$30 PROMO CODE: NOBOCabaret

Dance for Social Change Block Party presented by Dancing Grounds Uprising Teen Company is a all day celebration including youth dance, music, and poetry performances, free classes, DJ Webbie,  SpiritWerks: Music Reiki Facilitation, a bounce house, food vendors, arts & crafts, advocacy groups, and more! Nov 9th at Arise Academy. FREE

Debauchery! New Orleans' only live, ongoing soap opera -- now in it's sassiest, sauciest season yet. Performing monthly at Southern Rep. Nov 13. $10-$13

Goat in the Road Bingo The annual fundraiser for the Goat in the Road theatre company featureing free, delicious food, a cash bar, great prizes, acerbic wit, and Bingo rounds (over 30!) all night long. Come out to this family-friendly event and play one game or play them all! $10-$30. Kids 12 and under are admitted for free!

Inside the Creole Mafia an ever-fluid, largely improvised meditation on Creole culture— both the homegrown and in-exile varieties—and is served up with big helpings of red beans and race. Running Nov 21-24 at Southern Rep. $28-$45

In the Red and Brown Water presented by No Dream Deferred. The play follows a group of siblings and their friends and lovers in fictional town San Pere, Louisiana and one girl in particular, Oya. She is a teenage girl living in the projects who has a talent for track but declines a college offer in order to care for her ailing mother. Running Nov 21- Dec 1 at Beaubourg Theatre. $25-$35

Vanishing Performances Festival a weekend-long festival presenting experimental performance work. The festival will feature local, national, and international artists and it will take place at the DIY space, The Mudlark Public Theatre. Running Nov 22-24. $10-$20

Talk: Black Community Theatre in NOLA a talk at the Words & Music Literary Feast in New Orleans about black community theatre in NOLA from the 60s to Present Day. Moderated by Chakula Cha Jua, the discussion features Carol Sutton, Anthony Bean, Tommye Myrick, and Karen-kaia Livers. Nov 23 at the Ace Hotel. $10

Rough Draughts Reading Series​ The NOLA Project's free monthly play reading series held on the final monday of most months. Always a new play read by professional actors. Nov 25 at NOLA Brewing. FREE
