OPEN CALL FOR AUDITIONS: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b084aa9a929a2f94-auditions Danny and Val fight for survival and freedom against the powerful Megaport. A suspenseful, quick-witted, original play Broken Codes, has been developed over the past two years by playwright Stephanie Garrison and producer/director Megan Kosmoski. Set in a near-future New Orleans and coastal Louisiana, this innovative script tackles the existential challenges facing our home through the lens of the sci-fi genre. Coastal land loss, gentrification, and classism intersect in this thrilling spy-drama. Running May 1-10 at the Fortress of Lushington with possible extension (off on May 2). Rehearsals will be based on schedules of the performers- assume 4-5 weeks of rehearsals with 3-4 days a week. All roles are paid All roles are open to actors of all racial backgrounds, gender identities, sexual identities, and abilities. Video submissions accepted: email Megan.Kosmoski@gmail.com for more information. DANIEL “DANNY” WELLS: Male. Thirties. Tech-savvy member of the Nouvelle Vague Danny was born and raised in the more affluent area of New York. Eventually disgusted by watching his family casually abuse their authority as the main suppliers, he decides to dedicate his talents and resources to undermining their power and transferring it back to the majority, by moving to the Rim in New Orleans and joining the resistance group, Nouvelle Vague. Danny is the charming nerdy type, he’s a little awkward, hates violence and especially guns, prefers to talk himself out or out-think his way out of a problem. VALERIE “VAL” LEBRUN: Female. Thirties. Native of The Rim. Val is a native of the Rim area (the vanishing coastal area of New Orleans). After her parents died from The Spill, Val joins the small resistance against the Megaport. During one of her runs, she is apprehended by Leslie and Reyes, who offer her medical and financial security in exchange for information on potential uprisings. Although she is not proud of what she does, she has learned it is better to watch out for the self rather than others. Val is quick-witted and rough around the edges, but she has absolute love and warmth for her home (the rim) and her community. She is a survivor above all else. DIXON REYES: Male. Forties to fifties. Works for LESLIE. Reyes is the head of security (and all that that implies) for the Megaport. Similar to Mr White from Reservoir Dogs, he is tough to the point of being ruthless, but he does have a firm moral code. Like most who have lived their lives on the Rim, his brusque exterior has been formed over years of constant disappointments and disillusionments. His relationship with Leslie is complicated in that he is one of the few people who has seen who she used to and could have been. LESLIE DEVAUX: Female. Forties. Head of the Megaport. Despite coming from humble origins, Leslie has worked her way up to become the CEO of the Megaport. Yet, instead of empathizing with those of the lower class, she is motivated to keep her hold over power and security through any means necessary. She desires order and punishment that she claims is justice. SIDES WILL BE AVAILABLE SHORTLY SIGN UP FOR A SLOT: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b084aa9a929a2f94-auditions For more information email Stephanie Garrison and Megan Kosmoski: steph.garrison1@gmail.com Megan.Kosmoski@gmail.com
